Urban Stripes

Description

The Plaza is divided into five east/west ‘stripes’, connecting communities on either side. Each stripe has a distinct appearance and use. The Plaza’s center becomes a large, paved public space, repositioning the Plaza as Prospect Park’s formal entry.

Features

  • Flatbush Ave. becomes 2-way auto route; all residential traffic moves along Plaza Streets East and West
  • ‘Field of Poles’ 18 feet high create a structure for greenmarket; coverings can be extended between poles for shelter
  • reflecting pool, open-air amphitheatre, urban ‘fall forest’
  • kiosks for food, newspapers, bicycle rental
